"Invalid hostname and path" with punycode domain name

Hello,

I'm trying to set up two domains with my site. The first one is at http://xn--cr8h.xn--nj8hz0a.ws/ and the second is at https://alien.topcake.ws/ . The second one works fine, but the first just says "Invalid hostname or path". Why is this happening? The domain worked fine with my old hosting provider (OpenShift).

Re: "Invalid hostname and path" with punycode domain name

Hello,

Your domain name is invalid IDNA, as you can see on this Unicode check. In particular, emoticons are forbidden, although it seems a lot of software doesn't correctly enforce that rule.

We do, not for ideological reasons, but because the library we're using does. There's an open bug report for more lenient parsing, but it's not implemented yet. When it is, we'll probably accept such invalid hostnames.
